ROOTS UP!

PURPOSE
The purpose of the Urban Roots Initiative is to expand educational and workforce pathways for youth and Veterans with a special emphasis on Agribusiness, Green Careers, and Golf Course Industry employment. Through our work on local golf courses, youth gain hands‑on experience in turf management, equipment maintenance, irrigation systems, natural resource stewardship, and sustainable land‑care practices. These skills directly connect to high‑demand agribusiness and environmental careers.
The Initiative brings together the Mission and Vision of the Welcome Home Organization (WHO) by aligning community partners, industry experts, and agricultural collaborators who contribute time, funding, and technical guidance. Their support strengthens our efforts to promote progressive growing methods, clean‑energy awareness, and sustainable workforce development.
MISSION
The mission is to collaborate with multiple farmers to support outside more conventional farming communities while raising awareness to the looming needs of clean energy, more efficient energy systems and more effective irrigation. Also offering agricultural and holistic aspects of natural resources, cultivation, and agribusiness.
Gramma T’s Greenhouse & Education Garden
Revitalizing Our Roots — Growing New Pathways
As we prepare to revamp and rebuild Gramma T’s Greenhouse & Education Garden, our commitment to hands‑on agricultural learning remains stronger than ever. While the garden and greenhouse undergo improvements, we are actively expanding the Roots Up Initiative through powerful partnerships with local golf courses and the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) First Green Initiative.
These collaborations allow us to continue delivering high‑impact, outdoor education for youth—connecting them directly to real‑world agribusiness, environmental stewardship, and turf‑management careers.
Bringing the Roots Up Initiative to Life
While the greenhouse is being refreshed, our youth are already learning in living outdoor classrooms:
